LocaleWatch · last updated 6 August 2026
LocaleWatch compares the translated content in a Shopify store against its source content and reports where the two do not match. It is read-only: it never writes to a store, and it never changes a product, a translation or a setting.
What we never ask for
The app requests exactly four access scopes, and Shopify shows them to you before installation:
read_products— product titles and descriptionsread_translations— the translations of that contentread_locales— which languages your store publishesread_markets— which markets each language is attached to, so we can tell a language shoppers can reach apart from one that is published but attached to no market
There is no scope for customers and no scope for orders, so the app is technically incapable of reading them. It does not read your customers, their addresses, their orders, your revenue, or any shopper's personal data.
What we store
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Your shop domain | To know which store a scan belongs to. |
| An access token issued by Shopify | To read products and translations. Revoked by Shopify the moment you uninstall. |
| The store owner's email address | To send the weekly alert. Read from Shopify; used for nothing else and never shared. |
| Scan results | Product IDs, handles and titles of products where the translation did not match, and which check flagged them. The history is what makes "three of these are new since last week" possible. |
We do not use analytics or advertising trackers, we set no cookies, and we do not sell, rent or share any of it.
Running the service also produces ordinary operational logs — the shop domain a request came from, timestamps, and error messages. They exist so faults can be diagnosed, they contain no shopper data, and they are discarded on our hosting provider's standard retention schedule.
Where it is stored
All of it stays in the European Union:
| Provider | Purpose | Region |
|---|---|---|
| Google Cloud Run | Running the application | Belgium |
| Neon | Database | Frankfurt, Germany |
| Resend | Sending the alert email | Ireland |
How long we keep it
When you uninstall the app, Shopify notifies us and we delete your shop record
and its entire scan history immediately — in one operation, so nothing can be
left behind. We also honour Shopify's mandatory privacy requests
(shop/redact, customers/redact,
customers/data_request). The two customer requests have nothing to
act on, because we hold no customer data.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the data described above, and you may object to its processing. Uninstalling the app already deletes everything. For anything else, write to hello@localewatch.com and we will answer within 30 days.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top changes with it and merchants with the app installed are told by email.
